Upsides Of Household Beer Brewing
Home beer making is a trick I first got into when I was still at school.
Homebrew beer was all the fashion at the time with many of different homemade beer kits available in nearly all of the grocery stores and chemist retailers.
Me and 2 or 3 mates would get hand in hand and go and buy 1 or possibly several home beer making kits, usually a few weeks ahead of the outset of the school holidays so it would be ready for the outset of the summer holidays, when we would camp in our home gardens, get intoxicated on manky homebrew beer and puke in each others shoes.
So the key reason why did we get into home beer making?
Well a wide selection of reasons.
To begin with we were under the allowable beer drinking age bracket but we were A bit of a wild group and liked to get drunk so home beer brewing was an easy way for us to have just about extensive access to highly powerful homemade beer.
Secondly even though ordinary, common beer from the off licence was not expensive, it was still too pricy for us schoolkids to be able to buy enough for a few of us to be able to go out and buy a sufficient amount of for a get together.
Thirdly it grew to become a fun (and profitable) hobby.
To commence with our beer making efforts resulted in some pretty horrible brews, stinking tasting, cloudy (like a dirty river in full flood), full of sediment and almost sure to make even the most steel stomached of us vomit after just a handful of bottles.
Gradually though, after trying out pretty much every home beer brewing Kit on the market and trial and error with different brewing techniques we began to learn that home beer making could in fact churn out better beer than that available commercially.
We grasped how to brew commercial quality beer, Of course for most of us whatever that we can do well will often become something that we enjoy and as I have become a good beer drinker these two hobbies (brewing and drinking) harmonize with each other perfectly. It's just a shame it took me so long to get to the stage my beer was at least as good as the mass produced beer.
Happily beer aficionados now do not need such a long and stomach churning learning curve before they can turn out to be an expert in home beer brewing as there are a good amount of very good and useful websites dedicated to home beer making.
